This women's group started in 1978. The children in the Sunday School at Oakwood Methodist Church were rehearsing for a performance of Hip Hip Horatio. Mothers gathered in the hall at each rehearsal, chatting and getting to know each other. One of the church members suggested that we should form a group and meet on a regular basis. We quickly formed the group and started to meet monthly on a Monday. We discussed what we should call ourselves and settled on Group '78.
We continue to meet here at Southgate on the third Monday of the month. We have various talks and on some occasions we have a practical evening or an activity that we organise ourselves. Sometimes we have an outing or a meal out somewhere.
